Exterior Designs is a premier landscaping company serving the greater Houston area including the Woodlands, Conroe, Spring, Magnolia, Katy, Sugar Land, Deerbrook and Kingwood. We can travel further, but sticking to this area allows us to personally oversee each facet of our work. We operate from 2 office locations. The Residential design center and nursery is located on the north side of Houston. Our Commercial Divisions are located on the west side.

Houston Community Management Services
HCMS has worked with the company for approximately seven (7) years. The customer service has been superb and the level of service has been excellent. Working with this company has made the manager’s entire job so much easier. You only have to make one phone call and the request is completed. No follow up is needed because the manager’s have the confidence in Silversand Services formerly Komp Horticultural Services, they know the project supervisor will handle any problem in a timely manner.

Jimmy Collins – Principal & President
Jimmy has an Associate degree in Horticulture and over 25 years of experience in landscape management and landscape installation.  He is also an expert in turf management and irrigation work.  His past positions include Director of Operations for Earthtone Development and Operations Manager for the Outdoor Division of The Spencer Company.  Jimmy is a certified Chemical Applicator.  His past landscape management projects include New Territory, Fairfield, Transco Tower, Shell WesthollowResearch Center and the Marathon Oil Tower.  Jimmy enjoys all sports, fishing and camping.  
 
Somir K. Paul – Principal & Business Counsel
Somir has over 30 years of experience in general management, financial management and management consulting.  In addition to being a Director of Exterior Designs and Silversand Services formerly KHS he is also the President and CEO of Woodlands Financial Services, Inc., and an advisor to several entrepreneurial businesses.  Prior to his association with Silversand Services, he was the General Manager of The Spencer Company, a Houston Horticultural firm.  Somir has been a seminar instructor for Rice University and a business speaker to various industry groups and universities.  Somir has a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University;  a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Sam Houston State University, and is a member of the American Society for Quality Control (ASQC).  He takes pleasure in family activities, traveling, gardening and reading.
 
John Vanderburg - Vice President Exterior
John has fifteen years of landscape management experience.  He has extensive knowledge in disease, fungus and insects related to landscape management.  John holds an Associates Degree of Applied Science in drafting technology.  Prior to joining Exterior Designs, he was the Operations Manager for Silversand Services formerly KHS.  He also worked as a maintenance production supervisor at Hou-Scape Inc.  John has worked on many well-known properties in the Houston area including Lyondell Citgo, Allen Center, Exxon Coal & Mineral, Wells Fargo Bank Plaza, Baylor College of Medicine, Anadarko and Royal Oaks.  John includes his family in fun with fishing, hunting and playing golf.
 
Julia Raia - Sales & Marketing Manager
Julia joined Exterior Designs in 2006 as the Sales & Marketing Manager and continues to manage the sales team at Silversand Services formerly KHS.  She joined the company in 1999 and with her dedicated work ethics and enthusiasm; she rapidly expanded her role as an integral team member and moved into a leadership position.  Her success can be demonstrated with projects such as New Territory, River Oaks Country Club, Anadarko, Royal Oaks and Greatwood.  Julia’s commitment to the future of the company is shown by her constant persistence to customer satisfaction and her desire for self-improvement.  Her creativity is shown through her watercolor paintings and cooking skills.  Julia plans to play golf in every state at least once.
 
Chris Smith – Landscape Architect, ASLA
Chris has over 25 years of experience in landscape architecture and is a registered licensed landscape architect in the state of Texas.  Chris started Exterior Designs in 1991 and sold the company to Silversand Services formerly KHS in 2003, staying on as a lead designer. Chris has worked for leading architectural and design firms and specializes in master planned design. Chris has an Associate Degree in Horticulture from Oklahoma State University, a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University, and is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Chris likes to hunt and spend time with his family.
 
Tambra Shell – Landscape Architect, ASLA
Tambra has over 20 years of experience in landscape architecture and is registered and licensed in the state of Texas.  Prior to joining Exterior Designs her work included:  residential, commercial, park, zoo and school projects along with urban design and land planning.  She has international and domestic experience.  Tambra has a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University and is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects. She likes to sew, travel and enjoy a good movie!
 
Kirk Jordan – Sales and Design
Kirk brings his personal perspective on residential and commercial landscaping in Texas to Exterior Designs. With extensive experience in many areas of the Green Industry, Kirk specializes in residential design/build and commercial design/renovation.  He has received multiple national recognitions for his work, expressing client personality and structure character through theme, customized material selections and foliage contrast. Kirk is a native Texan, received his Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from Texas A&M University and continually seeks ways Landscaping can improve our quality of living. He enjoys mountain bike riding, remodeling and cooking!
 
John Murphy - Landscape Special Services
John has spent 14 years as vice president of Sales and Marketing with Westco Grounds Maintenance. He holds an irrigations license with the State of Texas and is certified as an applicator with the Texas Department of Agriculture. John has been active in the Houston landscape management market for over 20 years. He’s worked with projects including The Parkway’s, Lakes on Eldridge, Twin Lakes, Lakes of South Shore Harbor, and Falcon Point H.O.A.
 
Kay Nelson - Principal and Sales & Design
Kay is a horticultural graduate from Texas A&M University with over twenty-nine years of experience in the landscape industry. Prior to joining the company, she worked with Rentokil Tropical Plants and was the Interior Plants Division Manager for The Spencer Company. Some of Kay's past landscape management projects include Hines One and Two Shell Plaza, Galleria Towers I & II, Thomas Properties San Felipe Plaza and PM Realty Group’s Kurland Building. Kay enjoys family activities, bicycling and reading in her spare time.
 
 
Lisa Taul – Design & Holiday Division Manager
Lisa joined the company in 1997. She has worked in the interior landscape and holiday industry for over 11 years. Her keen ability for design and her detail oriented skills have contributed to the company’s ongoing success. She currently manages 5 professional designers, is the buyer for the company and manages operations of all holiday projects from start to finish. Some of Lisa’s projects include Pennzoil Place, Hines Interests, Kellogg Brown & Root, River Oaks Country Club and Greatwood.
 
Rick Yarbrough - Pool Division Manager
Rick has 16 years in the pool industry. He specializes in renovations, maintenance, and pool repair. He is certified in pool heaters and automated systems. Rick is dedicated to great service and quality work.
 
Felipe Santoyo - Irrigation Division Manager
Felipe has over 22 years of experience in landscape, installation and irrigation. He joined our company in 2001 as a Maintenance Supervisor and then in 2003 Felipe took over our Irrigation Division. He has been involved with projects such as River Park West, Cypress Creek Lakes, Greatwood and Town & Country Village. Felipe installed Calsense for Conoco to help preserve water. Felipe is a licensed irrigator and is dedicated to the success of the company.
 
Todd May - Account Service Manager
Todd has over 30 years experience in the landscape industry, including retail and commercial management. He has specialized in commercial customer service since 1988 using his expertise and attention to detail to maintain customer satisfaction. Prior to joining our company, Todd has been a manager at Cornelius Nursery, General Manager of Landscape Images of Texas and Sales Director at Earthtone Development. He has managed landscape projects at Transco Tower, Commonwealth Community, Lakes on Eldridge, Shell Refinery, Hines, and Transwestern.
 
Rudy Mueller - Account Service Manager
Rudy has over 19 years experience in landscape management and excellent customer service. He specializes in turf management, large tree care and is qualified to identify your individual needs. Rudy gives reliable and consistent service to all of his customers. Prior to joining our company, Rudy was a Maintenance Manager for Hou-scape. He has been involved in landscape projects such as Bay Forest, Autumn Creek, First Colony Mall and Royal Oaks.
 
Tom Blackburn - Account Service Manager
Tom Blackburn came to us in 2006 as an Exterior Account Service Manager. He has over 30 years experience in the landscape industry. Tom has worked on such projects as the Sears Tower, landscape design and installation, Conoco Phillips landscape maintenance and the Kurland Building.
 
Mark Lloyd - Account Service Manager
Mark is a recent graduate of Texas A&M University. Some of the fields he studied included: soil science, horticulture, agronomy, ecology and range science. While in school, Mark also owned and operated Omniscape, a residential landscape company that specialized in hardscapes and water gardens as well as the design and implementation of custom landscape renovations.
 
Mel Reist – Landscape Supervisor
Mel joined the company in February 2004 as a Landscape Supervisor. He has over 5 years experience in the landscape construction department. Mel has worked on projects such as Royal Oaks, Greatwood, River park West, Anadarko and Cypress Creek Lakes Rec Center. He excels at landscape construction and flower design and installation. Mel is dedicated the the success of the company and plans to make a difference by quality commitment and exceeding all expectations.
 
Jana Swatloski – Account Service Manager
Jana holds an Associates Degree in Horticulture and has over 20 years experience in the industry.  Some of the projects she has been involved with are American General, Administaff and Cy-Fair College.  Joining the company in 2005 in the Interior Division as an Account Service Manager, she quickly moved to the Residential Exterior Division which is truly her passion.  She specializes in seasonal color and pays attention to fine details.  Taking care of the customer is her number one priority.   Jana enjoys seeing a landscape project mature and improve throughout the years.  She enjoys cooking, gardening and quality time with family and friends.
 
Eddy Maya - Estimator
Eddy joined the company in 2000 as a chemical technician. He has a Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Engineering from Mexico. He currently wears many hats within our companies. Eddy’s roles are interior/exterior estimator, graphic artist, computer trouble shooter, pool auditor and company photographer. He continues to educate himself in the English language and computer software classes. He is dedicated to the growth of the company and always available to help anytime.
 
 
Monica Quiroga – Accounting & Office Manager
Monica started with the company in 2004 in Accounts Receivable department. In 2006 she accepted the role of Office Manager along with her Accounts Receivable responsibilities. She conducts our monthly cash meetings for a better understanding of collections and gets everybody involved in the effort. She is always available for our customer’s questions and making our billing process easier for everybody. Monica feels that collections should be handled with a smile but with a sense of urgency.
 
Suzi Hokanson - Accounting & Sales Coordinator
Suzi Hokanson joined our team in April 2006. She brought with her 4 years experience in Accounting and 20 years experience in Customer Service. The support she gives to our sales staff and pool technicians has helped contributed to our customer satisfaction. Suzi is quick to react to the needs of the customer and is always friendly and available for assistance.
 
Candis Nunez - Accounting Assistant
Candis Nunez started with our company in 2003 years as a Receptionist and Accounting Assistant. Over the past few years, she has successfully performed great work ethics and has gained the quality as well as experience to move forward in the Accounting Department come 2006. She is organized and very particular with all work performed that keeps everyone else on their toes. Candis plans to grow with the company to expand her level of knowledge and become a success for her future and her family.
